parents to train
children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6). The home, a church
that teaches the Bible is the only inspired and infallible Word of God,
and a Christian school comprise a cord we believe is described in
Ecclesiastes 4:12b . . . and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. KJV
The History of Polk
County Christian School
1993
Some of the founding
families of
Polk County Christian School began praying for a Christian school
before the birth of their children. In the spring of 1993, several of
those parents began meeting and sharing their dream of starting a
Christian school for their children.
1994
At the first
school board
meeting it was stated, “We wanted to emphasize that our goal is an
education based on and involving God’s Word. The schools in Bolivar are
high quality, and our only concern is the restrictions that might be
placed on them.”
Teaching students with
the freedom
of integrating Christ in all areas of education was a dream that became
a reality with the first PCCS school year starting in 1994. Classes
were held in the Assembly of God Activities Building with three
classrooms: 1/2 day kindergarten, 1st/2nd grade, and 3rd/4th grade. The
dedication service was held on August 21, 1994. The special music
reflected the heart of the founding families, “May All Who Come Behind
Us Find Us Faithful.” Twenty-four students began their education at
PCCS that year.
1995
By the end of July
1995, it was necessary to hire another teacher. Thirty-five students
started school at PCCS that year.
1996
Things started out
well for the
promise of the third year of the school. However, the newly hired
administrator (and his wife who was hired to teach 3rd/ 4th/ and 5th
grades) called just six weeks before the new school year to say they
had changed their minds. Classes were not held that year but plans were
made to continue the school.
1997
With increased
determination, the
board continued to meet. Research was done to find a facility. Just
weeks before school was scheduled to start, David Cribbs purchased the
current building and leased it to the school. By the time school
started, much work had been done to clean and equip the new school. The
school board reorganized and refocused the direction of the school.
Eight kindergartners began school that year. The board’s plan was to
add a grade each year.
1998
The second year of the
reorganization was marked by adding a 1st/2nd grade class. There were
four kindergarten students that year, and nine students in the combined
1st/2nd grade. Slow and steady gains were made in the student
population.
1999
Preschool was a new
addition for
the 1999-2000 school year. Two sessions were offered. There were twelve
kindergarten students and twelve 1st/2nd/3rd grade students. The school
grew to forty-six students in three years after reorganizing.
2000
The enrollment grew to
75 students
for the 2000-2001 academic year with two sections of preschool, 1/2 day
kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd/3rd grade and 4th/5th grade. A new
addition was completed adding five classrooms, three restrooms, and
office space. Gifts and donated work completed the new addition.
2001
The school year
started with 91
students and four new teachers. A survey of the property was completed
which confirmed the land was 4.2 acres and the present building was
11,633 square feet. The property was appraised by Market Data
Approach at $761,950.
2002
In January 2002, a
loan for
$225,000 was secured to purchase the property and buildings from an
individual. This consolidated loan provided $130,000 for the real
estate purchase, $70,000 to refinance the 2000 expansion costs, and
$25,000 to supplement operations. The loan was established with a
one-year interest rate of 5.5% on a 30 year amortization schedule. A
further goal was to pay on a 15 year schedule if the budget allowed.
The 2002 year began
with 89
students, a new administrator and a new 5th/6th grade teacher. The
Master Plan for buildings housing preschool through 12th grade was
unveiled at the Parent Orientation meeting.
The student enrollment
maintained a
level of stability, and so it was determined the time was right to
advance the grades offered at PCCS. Some students didn’t return to PCCS
because their parents were unsure of additional grades being offered.
2003
At the beginning of
the 2003-04
academic year, 113 students were enrolled in classes preschool through
seventh grade.
2004
The 2004-2005 academic
year began
with the addition of Phase I of the Master Plan partially completed.
Four of the possible eight classrooms were finished. The additional
space is used for a multipurpose room. There were 131 students at the
beginning of the year with three students added before the second
semester began. Eighth grade was added. An additional half
day
kindergarten was added and extended day child care was added for the
morning to accommodate students who attended kindergarten in the
afternoon.
2005
There were 152
students when the fall 2005 year began.
2006
There were 146
students enrolled
when the fall 2006 year began. The School Board put into place the plan
to begin high school for the 2007-08 academic. High school grades were
planned beginning with the ninth grade and adding a grade each year
incrementally.
2007
There were 146
students enrolled
when the fall 2007 academic year began. The first 9th grade
class
was in place this year. Two classrooms were built out on the
east
wing.
